The cost for a single bus on a one-day school excursion amounts to $300. One of the major stumbling blocks to organizing field trips is the expenses involved. Excursions consume a large chunk of the budget if a school is to shoulder the expenses.
According to the 2007 Newark Kids Count, one third of all children in Newark live in poverty. There is a need of funds for public school field trips in underserved communities. Exposure to new experiences that broaden horizons can be especially helpful for students from lower socioeconomic backgrounds who may not have been exposed to these opportunities.
